Regarding Selecting Partition while installing Ubuntu.

Asked by Salman Faris

I was using Ubuntu and Wind.XP side by side. When Ubuntu 12.04 launched, downloaded it made a bootable DVD. Also using Windows XP CD, deleted and created 3 partitions out of a 80GB Hard Disc. Selected 'advanced partitioning tool' whilst installing Ubuntu. There appeared the 3 partitions I created earlier. But I Couldn't select any to install Ubuntu in it. While selecting one and hit "Install" button,a window appears and it says "<root file is not defined><try to correct it from partition menu>". What does that mean ? So I forced to spare my entire HD for Ubuntu using "Erase Entire disc and Install" at the first menu.
Please help me to istall the Ubuntu at the desired partion that I've created.

You havn't assign any filesystem where root directory should be mounted. During advance partitioning, while editing partition, provide mount point as '/'. This will solve the problem.
