12.04 install issue udevd[153]... no such file/dir

Asked by Michael Perrone

I'm installing the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04 onto this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152296 ) laptop.

I get the following error when installing from disk:
"udevd[155]: inotify_add_watch(6, /dev/dm-1, 10) failed: No such file or directory"

I tried to install it first from the bittorrent download, then the main download.

When I do "check disk for errors" I get a similar error.
"udevd[153]: inotify_add_watch(6, /dev/dm-1, 10) failed: No such file or directory"

Different tries I have gotten "udevd[157]: inotify_add_watch(6, /dev/dm-3, 10) failed: No such file or directory"

or I just get a blank screen with the console cursur blinking (takes no input)

Same things happen when I try to boot off of the CD, no install.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
If you are using an optical media, did you burn as slowly as possible?

As recommended (2nd to last post) here http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1787396.html

I hit F6 at the menu where one decides between trying without installing, installing, checking disk, etc.

Then hit escape, then delete the "--" and add "rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0 xdriver=vesa" and hit enter.

I'm not really sure what this does, but I think it has something to do with nvidia drivers on my MSI laptop? Not sure.
