unable to install

Asked by adam

I have fedora OS on my PC right now. I'm not really fond of the way it works, being new to linux, and wanted to try out Ubuntu. I used the first of the 3 options on the ubuntu site for the OS (and selected the 32 bit OS) and then burned the ISO to a DVD.

When i put the DVD in, and set that to my primary boot device in the BIOS, i am then taken to the Ubuntu main menu, where i can Install, check disk, run Ubuntu, etc...

In any of the 3 options mentioned above, it loads a command line window and starts scrolling through some things about my system such as:
"x.xxxxxx cdrom: Uniform CD-ROW driver Revision: 3.20
x.xxxxxxx input: Chicony Saitek Eclipse Keyboard as /....../....../ xx:xx:xx:xx
usbhid: USB HID core driver"

However, once it hits this line (Below) it stops... and just waits.
"5.584516 generic-usb 003:1532:0016.0003: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Razer Razer DeathAdder] on usb-0000:00:12.0-5/input0"

The cursor input area is blinking, and i am able to type text, but the only command that does anything is ctrl alt delete, which gives the message "md: stopping all md devices" and then restarts.

It sounds like the ISO may have got damaged in the download. You should always check the md5sum of any downloaded ISO:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Using one of the torrent downloads is also a good way to get the ISO as it has checksum verification of all packets as part of the protocol.

Ubuntu 12.04 is due out in a few days, and there's also Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu you might like to consider as they all use different desktop interfaces.
