Data recovery after installing win8 consumer preview

Asked by Malay Chatterjee

I had Win XP in my laptop and installed Ubuntu alongside XP on a later date . While booting, Ubuntu was coming first to give the choice of O.S. However, while installing the Win8 consumer preview everything got mixed up, I couldn't access any o.s and laptop became unusable.

However, I installed Ubuntu again, which brought the laptop back to life but erased all partitions and data and converted the total hard disk into a single large partition of .XT4 file system, which the Win XP installation CD declined to recognise.

With the kind help from the user community, especially from 'actionparsnip' I have managed to take back the hard disk space through Gparted in live cd and now I can again install Windows, if I like.

While using the Live cd, I tried to recover lost data through data recovery in GParted and I can see that 16GB of data in NTFS and 1GB of data in FAT 32 is there but when I am clicking the 'View' button, it is informing about some problem and the dialogue box is closing down.

Is there any way to solve this? I downloaded and installed "Foremost" but can not use it as I know nothing about writing any command to run programs.

Can anybody help please?

You can use recova software to recover your data.
First of all install a windows os the install any free data recovery software and can recover many data but it is impossible to recover all of your data.
