Failed to install Ubuntu

Been trying to install Ubuntu, Linux Mint and now last XBMCbuntu on my htpc since yesterday. Using Unetbootin and USB pen. Everytime at the end of installation it comes up:

grub-install/dev/sdc1 failed
this is a fataler error.

And then it comes up complete, and reboots, but only starts up with a blinking cursor.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Have you tried a different USB device?
Have you tested your RAM using memtest on the install media?
