unable to install unbuntu 11.04 using USB

Asked by simon reynolds

i have tried to dual boot my laptop by uploading the USB option from the Unbuntu web page but everytime i try to install the OS it stalls at various stages the closest ive come is the unbuntu background. i have re uploaded the iso several times but all with the same outcome. my method has been:

download Unbuntu desktop 11.04 iso
using pendrive linux populated the USB with the above
in bios i have changed the boot order to USB
unbuntu main page selected install to a hard disk
and that is as far as it goes, i have a purple screen with an Unbuntu logo and changing colour dots (4) - sometime there is a screen message saying checking network configuration and then booting system without full network configuration.

this remains on the screen for at least 15 to 30 minutes

any suggestions or pointers as to where i am going wrong?

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

There would be no errors, just a number which you need to check against the proper iso listed in:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/natty/MD5SUMS
Did you md5sum check the downloaded iso?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Did you burn the cd as slowly as possible?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Did you select the media check before trying to install to check the cd?
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck
Did you ever do a "memory check" (another live-media menu choice) on your PC?
Doing the above can save you a lot of time struggling with a bad install media.

Can you help with this problem?
