Cannot boot from full install

Asked by Jerry Woods

I've used a dual boot Ubuntu successfully on two laptops and it worked great.

I tried a full install on one of them and it won't boot. This is an old Dell Inspiron 7500 with a whopping 387 MB of RAM and 18 GB hard drive.

Again, this worked great as a dual boot Windows 2000 / Ubuntu computer.

Now it won't boot.

I'd given this computer to someone several years ago, got it back and don't have any Windows system software or a way to get into the bios.

I'm using Ubuntu 11

I don't need this computer but I do see another use for Ubuntu - re- purposing old computers for people who can't afford one.

So are there any other versions or other ways to boot? If not I can always remove the hard drive and recycle the computer. Thanks for any advice.

Its more than enough to run Ubuntu. I'd go with Lubuntu personally. It will be lighter and give a snappier system.

Windows 2000 isn't supported by Microsoft. I suggest you just make it all Ubuntu. You can always boot to LiveCD and reinstate Grub2.

make a fresh install of Lubuntu or xubuntu instead of Ubuntu. They will be much faster than ubuntu specially for your configuration.

Can you help with this problem?
