Hello R. Natarajan,
you should follow this article https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NattyUpgrades for upgrading from 10.10.
You can install from the new CD if you wish. If you do you should backup all of your data and burn the ISO to a cd.

please see "standard installation"
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation

The easiest method in this case would be upgrading your current install, unless you feel comfortable with burning the ISO, changing your boot method, and installing from the cd.

If you install from CD, it should keep your home directory, if you choose "Upgrade system". But let be a little paranoiac and do a backup of /home folder.
You can also run "update-manager" and choose to select upgrade to new distribution. But sometimes there are problems, so you should made a CD before.

Can you help with this problem?
