Does your files get saved if you are running a trial version of ubuntu

Asked by Eric Zeiberg

I have Ubuntu 11.10 and I am running on a boot disk. When it asked me if you want to install now and i said just try it. I have made some files and I was wondering if I restart my computer and go to windows which I also have on my computer will it save my files?

They will be saved if (and only if) you choose to store them on your hard drives (in the path /media/...) or on a USB key rather than in /home/...

How do you do that?

Open Nautilus the file manager and insert a USB thumb drive. After a moment you will see it appear in the pane on the left; double click on it and it will open the device in the main pane on the right. You can now drag your files to the thumb drive if you've already saved them to the home directory, or you can do a save-as and save them to the thumbdrive. The path will be /media/devicename where 'devicename is either the volume name of the drive or the UUID if there is no volume (label) name.
