Problem with Ubuntu in sony vaio, how to fix?

Asked by manish vashistha

I have sony vaio VGN NW13GH with 2GB RAM and 160 Hard Disc,(pre-installed Vista). i always had windows vista and somehow windows 7, but i gave my machine to my friend last week for installing some programs like games, movies and language software like c( i am IT student). so he installed Ubuntu in my system but i have no idea how to use it, i always use windows because as i am student and windows is good for me,
Now i want Windows Vista back but i didn't able to handle it at all.
in past before Ubuntu whenever i felt fix then i use f10/f11/f12 for reinstalling windows vista but now, i am not able to do it.
is there any way out? like as simple as that: I use torrents, will i able to use them in Ubuntu as i was in Windows?

Hello Manish,
I've edited your question slightly to remove any questionable statements.

Yes, Ubuntu does have torrent applications. You should have Transmission installed by default.

If you do not see Windows in your boot menu, nor do you see Your windows partition from within Ubuntu. Then most likely it has been removed/deleted. To reinstall windows you will need your windows installation cd. You can dual boot if you like. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

Assuming your using Ubuntu 11.10 ( you can check using this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CheckingYourUbuntuVersion ) I would recommend reviewing this getting started article https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/unity-introduction.html

Welcome to Ubuntu.

Aye ye land lubber. There are many torrent clients available to you, Transmission BitTorrent Client comes as default when Ubuntu is installed, however I recommend you install qBitTorrent. Simply go into the Ubuntu Software Centre, search for qBitTorrent. Click install, once it is finished you can open qBitTorrent via pressing the Windows key and searching for it or going into Dash Home and searching for it.

Considering your needs are pretty limited (No offence), I am sure that Ubuntu will be able to satisfy your needs. I used to use Windows, I completely uninstalled Windows and replaced it with Ubuntu because Ubuntu seems much more functional, easy to use.

Could you provide partition table, so I will see if you still have Windows ( https://answers.launchpad.net/grub/+faqs )

Can you help with this problem?
