This will be my first Linux experience, however I am told I will enjoy it over Windows. I want the functionality of a USB installer so that I can more easily update other machines

it's a decent enough system to run any of the ubuntu family. depends what you like the look of. the only difference is the default app set. the drivers and hardware support under the hood is identical.
