Hey Anil
on that page when you click "start download" you will be downloading an image file (.iso) that you will then burn using these directions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

this guide has some details also for installing https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation

you may want to re-download the Ubuntu ISO as you should not be extracting anything, it should be an ISO.

Hi Anil this is the documentation pages for 10.04. It has plenty of information on Ubuntu including a link at the bottom of the page regarding installing. Please have a look to see if this solves your problem.

you are suppose to download the image (.iso) file itself in order to create a bootable cd or pen drive. you may have downloaded something else or the download may have gone corrupt. also there is a chance that the extension of that file got accidentally renamed by the user and is saved without any extension (it is a strange as well as a rare instance). make a .iso extension manually at the end of file name and see if it works. best is to redownload tha file with .iso extension again carefully.
