Unable install Ubuntu along with Windows7(Dual Booting) on my desktop pc.

Asked by VIJAYKUMAR

Sir,
Will you please help me to install Ubuntu Linux 10.04.2 (from CD) in my desktop PC. I tried several times but I could not succeed in installing Ubuntu.
I have already installed Windows7 on C: volume and it is the present Operating system on my computer.
But I wish to install Ubuntu linux too (Dual booting). I have partitioned the Hard Disk in to 3 volumes.
 C: 50.1GB where Windows7 is installed. D: 49.9 GB( free). E: 48.8 GB.
However I don’t know what I should do to complete the installation process successfully.
I tried to install Ubuntu on D which is already formatted. But after the installation failure the dialogue box shows: An error occurred. Permission denied. For more information please see the log file. And there It shows –IO error [ Err no. 13]

I give system details below:-
System processor: Intel® Core (TM)2 CPU 4400@2.00 GHZ
RAM: 2.00 GB
System type: 32 Bit Operating System
Hard Disk: 160 GB
C: 50.1GB where Windows7 is installed.
 D: 49.9 GB ( free.)
 E: 48.8 GB.
I do not know much about computer and software programming. I hope you will help me in solving my problem.
Thanking you.

You cannot use windows partitions to support unix operating systems (without some kind of container, like WUBI). Windows filesystes do not provide the required file system features needed to run a unix operating system.

You must repartition or format the drive to contain partitions with unix filesystems, eg ext. You should also consider a small swap partition.

Suggest you follow these steps.Boot into your Win 7.Access COMPUTER.Insert Ubuntu CD into CD or DVD drive as appropriate.Click against the drive to access contents of Ubuntu disc. You will see quite a number of items the last is marked wubi.exe.Click against wubi.exe, popup shows with 'Run Wubi.Exe" click it , another Pop Up appears showing the following:- Demo and Full Installation , Install Inside Windows , Learn More.Choose Install Inside Windows.Rest is simple self explanatory process.Assuming you have smoothly installed Ubuntu within Windows 7,please reboot you will find the screen with options to boot into Windows 7 or Ubuntu.Choose Ubuntu and you will be able to access Ubuntu.Hope this helps, wish you happy UBUNTUING .Please indicate what you experienced.
