Acer Ferrari One install troubles - 10.4.3

Asked by Chris Ward

I have installed 10.4.3 LTS - i386 32 bit on my Acer Ferrari One netbook that had windows 7 64 bit. I did a complete disk wipe and fresh install and now none of the USB connections re recognized. Except for a very quick 10 second period, this means I also can't install any other versions from the external CD drive... what am I supposed to do... please help!

I get all the way to the sign in screen and neither the internal keyboard or touch pad are recognized nor are external ones because they are usb and no usb devices are recognized...

A tricky problem: how to update the system when you don't have mouse or keyboard working!

First we need to know what the USB controller is so that we can install the module (driver) for it. Boot off the LiveCD then open a terminal windows, and run the following:

sudo lshw | grep -A 12 usb

Paste the results here so we can see, but we'll just google the usb controller ship and find out what module we need to be using.

Next we need to update the system on the hard drive. I have a feeling there may be conflict, because you did say that it worked for 10 seconds? The fix may involve using a different module, or blacklisting a conflicting one etc.

Unfortunately the only way I can boot from a live cd is via a usb external cd, as this is a netbook and the system no longer recognizes it. Even when I pull up the system bios it does not recognize it is even plugged in. I thought about updating the bios but I cant do that either anymore.....
