You can boot from the LiveCD to test all the features.

the specs seem all right, but if you are in doubt , use a live cd

boot from a live cd or usb device and check whether all the components are working or not mainly the wifi, bluetooth, trackpad, audio and display card. if they are recognized in live mode, consider that you can have a smooth install of ubuntu 11.10. If some drivers are missing, select the additional drivers option from system settings and check for the availability of any proprietary drivers.

I have done all of this and it freezes on me all the time.

Since long proprietary driver doesn't support Xpress 1200, it may run with radeon.

Run this in a terminal to verify unity support:
usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p
