Need to reinstall because i have issue using Ubuntu

Asked by rayanne collins

My Ubuntu computer is about 3 yrs old and i have had problems with it ever since.

I am unable to do my updates under the update manager and had to erase my hard drive.

I am also unable to download adobe for the update.

I have looked on the launchpad for help but still can not fix it and i am stuck in Ubuntu 8.04..

I am seeking help to see if i can change my OS to windows 7 for less problems and also so i can protect my computer and get some anti-virus software..

Simply back up any data you want to keep to an external disk, then put your windows 7 disc into your system, and ensure that the BIOS is to boot off the CD. Windows will overwrite ubuntu entirely.

Check the CD surface for scratches. Other than that, I don't think anyone here can really support MS's stuff. If its freezing in their installer, this is not really an ubuntu problem.

You may well have hardware problems, and you can perform some tests (like using the memtest tool in ubuntu's liveCD) to check this -- but I have no idea if this can be or how this is done using Ms's tools.

Yes it seems that there is a problem with your computer. You should probably run memtest86+ first to see if it finds any problems. memtest86 is available on 'The Ultimate Boot CD' which you can download here:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

You'll have to burn a bootable CD so that you can boot the machine and run the test. Alternately, you could download the ISO for Ubuntu 12.04 as memtest86+ is on that as well, and you could have another go at installing and running Ubuntu.

Support for Ubuntu 8.04 ran out earlier this year so isn't updatable, but it sounds like you've been having trouble for a long time when the computer should probably have been returned to the supplier for warranty repair.

Windows won't give you less problems, it will give you more: the requirements for some anti virus software being just one them. There's probably no point running any OS on that computer until you find out if there's a hardware problem.

If you don't feel comfortable testing and repairing your computer you should proably find a reliable shop to do this for you.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you burn the CD as slowly as possible?

You cannot download "adobe", Adobe is a company, You CAN install Adobe Flash, and Adobe Reader as they are sotware packages. Just like you can't install Microsoft to a PC but you can install Microsoft Office.
