loads up to login screen

I have just downloaded ubuntu from the site, that uses the windows installer, so i can keep vista as well. i'm not very good with computers, but managed to select it from the boot screen and it got to the purple login screen. i put in my password and it played a tune and changed to another purple screen with nothing on it? i assume its the desktop but it is completely blank. had to turn it off via the plug! tried it again and it did the same. do i have to download something else?

You can resize your NTFS and dual boot without using wubi.

If you log into Unity2D you will get your 3D accelleration sorted out.

Do you use a laptop ? In this case, connect an external monitor to see if you get screen.
What is your graphic chip ?
