which version of Ubantu should be installed on Compaq pressario cq 40-108 TU.

HP website has declared Compaq Pressario CQ40-108 TU model as a difficult model for win xp installation becoz SATA Hard disk drivers and sound drivers are difficult for installation for Windows XP. so please guide me if I can install Ubuntu and which version should be installed. Please check the link below- difficulty level 3

I don't think the drivers will be a problem from Ubuntu apart from the wireless one (which can be fixed easily). I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on one Compaq Pressario Laptop with 1GB RAM successfully and it runs fine too. I don't remember the exact model number of the laptop. It was my friends laptop. So go ahead and install 11.10. If you face some problem let us know.

SATA is default protocol for hard disk since many years and is not an issue for Ubuntu. I'm surprised it's one for XP. It could be a commercial point of view, as Microsoft want to kill XP to sold new OS.
Linux is improving constantly the driver and integrating continuously new hardware.

From a practical point of view, it's easy.
Download both 32bits and 64bits (historically named AMD). The drivers could be slightly different.
Make a USB key of each one, boot on them, choose "Try without install" and check you can read disk, hear audio and more important that WIFI is working (it's best if it works now, but issue could be fixed later automatically during installation, or by requesting help on this forum).
