We need more information.

1) Tell us about your computer. Desktop? Laptop? Does it have a Make and Model? What are the basic specs? How much RAM have you got?

2) Look at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto Pay particular attention to checking the MD5Sum

Did you md5sum check the downloaded iso?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Did you burn the cd as slowly as possible?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Did you select the media check before trying to install to check the cd
 http://zootlinux.blogspot.com/2010/05/check-disc-for-defects-in-ubuntu-1004.html
Did you ever do a "memory check" (another menu choice) on your PC.
Doing the above can save you a lot of time struggling with a bad install media.

How far along in the installation did you get? Did successfully boot from the CD? How were you installing Ubuntu (on a hard disk partition or with WUBI)?

Actually I was under the impression I had to burn it as fast as possible!!!! I will reburn it at 3x (that's the minimum it allows me) I will also select the verify option this time, the iso image I got works fine when I open it with virtual Daemon tool, but when i booted from cd, I never got any choice screen...only a pink screen....thanks I will re-do the cd and re-try ;)

192Mb of RAM is not enough to run Ubuntu properly. Try Xubuntu or Lubuntu.

...or if you can, increase the amount of RAM...

"Lubuntu 11.10 requires a minimum of 128 MB of RAM to run and 256 MB of RAM to install with the graphic installer. The recommended minimum RAM to run a live CD session is 384 MB." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu#Lubuntu_11.10

There are two different install disks. The Desktop disk is a LiveCD and needs the 384 to install because it is performing 2 jobs, LiveCD+install. The Alternative disk is just an install which only needs 64Mb to install.

Get the Alternative disk! From here: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/11.10/release/

Yeah emachines always cheaped out on the RAM. You can get RAM for pence these days. Lubuntu will give you a more reactive OS leaving more RAM for your apps to run in

You could have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_Linux_distribution
Puppy Linux , SliTaz and Tiny Core Linux have some users.

Can you help with this problem?
