Ubuntu 11.04 does not recognise Windows as an OS and I'm unable to install a dual boot system

Asked by wordsmyth2

I tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 as a dual boot system with windows 7, but I got a message saying THERE IS NO OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED. Naturally, I did NOT proceed with installing Ubuntu 11.04, for fear it would delete/overwrite the existing Windows 7 installation. Anyone else encountered this problem?

Did you fully install Ubuntu?
How did you install it if you did?

AS stated, did not install Ubuntu because of the message:NO OPERATING
SYSTEM INSTALLED (i.e. Windows 7)

P.S. I'm using my desktop to write this - the problem with dual loading
Ubuntu is on my Dell laptop...:-)

If Ubuntu is not installed, why are you posting here?

Ubuntu installed on my desktop, as stated. My attempt to install same on
my laptop, which had Windows 7 installed, resulted in the
aforementioned NO OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED, hence my original post.
Okay?:-(

Sure, just clarifying.

If you boot to liveCD you can reinstate Grub2. May help

Please avoid posting with previous message included, it makes Web interface hard to read.
And please be more careful when explaining issue. Forget Andrew advice, as you have not installed Ubuntu..
The message is from BIOS which is not able to find an operating system to boot.
What kind of media did you use for Ubuntu ?
Did you check MD5 of ISO image: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Could you check BIOS boot order ? After failing to boot from Ubuntu, you should have boot from Windows on hard disk.

Can you help with this problem?
