Ubuntu CD does not boot

Asked by Laya

I have downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 i386 BitTorrent file. The file that downloaded was a .rar file. I extracted the files with Winrar on Windows XP and burnt the files to a CD using Nero. But the system does not boot from the CD upon restarting. Please help.

Its not a RAR file, your crap OS just puts the RAR icon on it because WinRAR can handle it. you do NOT extract the file. Just open it with Nero and it will burn as necessary. Resist the urge to extract

I uninstalled Winrar and the icon of the file became as that of an image. I burnt the image using Nero Express 8. Still does not boot man!!!

You don't need to uninstall WinRAR.

If you open Nero then select to burn an ISO file, you can then select the ISO file and it will burn. Burn as SLOWLY as possible too.

Just because an icon is shown, doesn't always mean it is something. Windows is DUMB and reads the file extension to tell it what the file is. This is not appropriate and you should THINK about what is going on rather than trusting Windows
