Acer netbook won't start after installing Ubuntu 11.10

Asked by trevor

I wanted to replace the previous version of Ubuntu and to wipe off my Acer netbook all personal information, so I downloaded version 11.10, saved it as a file, and then used startup disk creator to make a usb startup. Everything went fine loading in the iso, but when I went to restart - nothing! The motor starts on my netbook but nothing else happens. Could this be a bootloader problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Trevor

I cannot access any information inside the laptop because I am unable to boot it. However, on the outside there is a label that says: Atheros AR5BXB63. Is that of any help?

Seems its an intel GPU. Try adding the boot option:

nomodeset

It may help

@trevo: your last post is empty.
Do you get an empty screen, a screen with a prompt (which one) or some text ?

The only thing I get is: green power light comes on, and I can hear the fan - nothing else. No screen, no text. (Sorry for delay in replying, I have been away.

This sounds like it could be the BIOS,

you may find the first sentence of this page very familiar:

http://apevere.blogspot.com/2009/01/acer-aspire-one-black-screen.html

I came across this when trying to remedy issues with mine, although for me this was not the issue
 (still don't know why...)

hope this helps
