If you are receiving one in the post then you can get it faster by downloading and burning. Remember to MD5 test the ISO and burn as SLOWLY as possible. Do NOT extract the ISO, simply open the ISO wit your burning app and it will burn appropriately

If you have a physical Ubuntu CD, then you do not need to burn an .iso image before installing or trying out Ubuntu. Just boot your computer from the CD (the same way you would from a CD you had yourself burned from an .iso image).

You can follow the "Try It!" and/or "Install It!" instructions at http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download (but not the "Download Ubuntu" or "Burn your CD or create a USB drive" instructions, as those are unnecessary since you already have a physical CD).

If you experience problems installing, or you just want to make sure your CD is good before you start, you can check it for defects by booting from it and pressing Spacebar as soon as you see the person and keyboard icons appear at the bottom of the screen. Then select your language and select "Check disc for defects". (This applies equally well to CD's and DVD's you burn yourself, and also works for checking bootable USB media that you have created yourself.)
