Windows 8 stop Linux

Asked by john Alatalo

I wonder if Ubuntu/Canonical have any strategy to prevent this become a reality:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-source/microsoft-to-stop-linux-older-windows-from-running-on-windows-8-pcs/9589

Atleast here in Sweden it would be the end of any new Linux users since almost 100 % of the computers are sold pre-installed with Windows or Apple/Mac. Very few independent dealers sell without any of thoose.

Must Linux users replace Windows with Linux. And it seems to be impossible in a near future.

In the european union the antitrust will block this. However the uefi will not run on every PC because the choise to insert it is made by hardware production. I think that it can be disabled in bios however. So keep calm.

antitrust laws in any country should be able to prevent this. but microshaft is a huge organization and has a lot of money. they might be able to get away with in, as intel was able to force its competitors out of business in the 90s with payoffs and bullying.

I already had in this forum someone with a Trust Platform UEFI, that I was unable to help.
In a previous time, some PC were tattooed. That means BIOS does before boot a checksum of part of OS to boot, and refuse to boot if it wasn't the pre-installed OS.
UEFI by itself is not an issue. It's use of a cryptographic BIOS which can only boot pre-installed OS. You could also have in the future difficulties to install Windows 9 on same PC!

there are many governments who will support microshaft because of the subsidies they get from microshaft or the gates foundation. this is apparent when microshaft tried to push their proprietary format as a standard to displace ODF.

the only thing anyone can do is contact local media to drum up support to lobby government to stop microshaft.
