Can't install ubuntu 10.10 on hp pavilion 514n

Asked by Snakester15

When I try to install ubuntu 10.10 on my hp pavilion 514n I get to the screen that askes if I want to install or try, but when I click any of them, the cd stops spinning and it just stays "loading" forever. I have already updated the bios to the latest version and have tried installing from both a cd and USB with the same results. I have access to more memory cards if you think that is the problem.

Did you md5sum check the downloaded iso?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Did you burn the cd as slowly as possible?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
Did you select the media check before trying to install to check the cd

Did you ever do a "memory check" (another menu choice) on your PC.
Doing the above can save you a lot of time struggling with a bad install media.

I used the disk on another computer with no problem. I also tried debain just to see if it would work and got the exact same problem. It's like after it does the initial load it won't start loading again for the next step

If in fact the install cd was working on another machine then I would personally use
the "alternate download" of Ubuntu and Burn a cd and install with that. Does not
have the ubiquity installer, have to focus when installing but usually works every time.
