Upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 best option.

Asked by Ivan Ratoyevsky

I have Natty Narwhal 11.04 installed & working smoothly & trouble free on my DELL desktop PC. I would like to upgrade to Oneiric Ocelot 11.10 when it is finally released in the near future.

Just wondering if:-

 a) over the web upgrade is a safe option from one version to another? ( have a FTTC web connection).

b) is it best to download a fresh ISO & burn to disk and re-install (rebuild the entire system) the whole system!! apps & all?

Any advise would be appreciated for a relative linux novice.

Thanks Ivan

Some users have problem with the upgrade so I will install it from the .iso. But other users don't have problem, so it can work like not. You can try to upgrade and see how it goes, if it fails reinstall.

I prefer to reinstall.

Thanks for your reply, good comments which are appreciated. YES! will give the in-place over the internet version upgrade and hope nothing gets seriously messed up (post upgrade especially). But as you say a full re-install from a fresh ISO is always a fall back option. Im sure this does have advantages too as its a clean install. Thanks Ivan

Make Ubuntu media before upgrade, unless you have a second PC to make it!
