Use Unetbootin to make a bootable USB drive:
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

You'll have to move the ISO to your hard drive then run Unetbootin to correctly make the USB drive a LiveUSB.

You should also check the MD5 sum of the ISO that you downloaded to make sure there are no problems with it:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/md5summer/

Checking if the ISO is good can save you a lot of hassles later on.

The official download page of Canonical explains how to install in a USB key: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download
