Yes if you need hibernate and especially if you have low RAM. If you have less then 2Gb RAM then swap should be double the RAM amount you have. If you have 2Gb RAM or more then set the swap space to be the same size as your RAM. If you have a LOT of RAM and only use normal desktop things then you can probably get away with zero swap (4Gb RAM for web browsing and chatting will never touch swap).

I suggest you have one unless drive space is not a luxury (EEE PCs with 4Gb SSD drives etc)

By the way, if you have the installer partition automatically rather than partitioning manually, it will automatically set up the swap for you. (So you only have to worry about making a swap partition, and how big it should be, if you are already partitioning manually.)
