installing 11.04 on a netbook

Asked by Joel Stein

I just purchased a Gateway Netbook for the wife and was wondering if I need to do the whole WUBI thing or if I can just download it(11.04) to the new netbook. It's coming with Windows XP which I'll probably leave in on general principles but I need to know if I can just install from my flashdrive that I used to install to this computer.

You can use either. Using a true install and resizing the NTFS will give an OS which is easier to fix and will also not be affected by the shortcomings of NTFS. If you want to run only Ubuntu then this is fine too and you can wipe out the existing NTFS and install Ubuntu.

I apologize for my ignorance but I don't understand what NTFS is.

Gotcha. New Technology File System. The wife says she really doesn't want windows around anyway so I think I'll just go ahead an do a reformat and install of 11.04. Then I won't have to mess with the WUBI. Thanks for the help.
