Do I need to install drivers

Asked by Mohammed Hatamleh

Am Planning To Uninstall Windows 7 And Install Unbuntu After I Tried It With Wubi And It Was Awesome (Unbuntu 11.04)

Then I Removed It.

And Now I Wanna Totally Uninstall Windows And Install Ubuntu
When Installation Completes, Are All My Drivers Installed
Or Do I Need To Install Them
If I Need To Install Them Tell Me A Step By Step Guide
And If Unbutu Will Automatically Intall Them During Setup Also Tell Me If I Need To Install Somethings
Thx Plz Plz Tell Me More Info As I Really Want Unbuntu

Please don't post in all caps. It is harder to read, is unnecessary and looks like you are shouting, so DON'T

If you want to just install Ubuntu then boot to the liveCD and use the installer there, you can then tell the installer to use the entire disk space to hold ubuntu and remove WIndows. Alternatively, you can use Windows to resize it's own NTFS partition to create a TRUE dual boot and keep both OSes.

If you choose to install only Ubuntu then the installer can do this all for you but be sure your backups have sufficiently recent versions of all the data you require, as the install will destroy the data in the NTFS.

The Linux drivers for your hardware will need installing in Ubuntu. A lot of drivers are in the default install but some may need adding extra.

You can boot to the liveCD and it will run as it does in an installed OS, just a little slower

Mohammed:

Please just *try* the liveCD -- this will answer your question almost straight away.

However, most, but not all, drivers are included. It depends upon what devices you have -- which you have not told us.

Enumerating your hardware will involve booting to a liveCd, so you might as well just find out by trying directly at that point.

Depends which you need to install. there is no single answer. The windows drivers are for Windows, Ubuntu is not windows so they are of no value.

If there were no problems with WUBI, it is 99.9% certain there will be no problems with installing Ubuntu natively on your computer.

Ubuntu comes with all your required drivers, Windows drivers are unnecessary and wouldn't work anyway, and you weren't using them on Ubuntu in the first place when you installed Ubuntu with WUBI.

You have no need to worry about drivers, the Ubuntu installer will take care of them for you, even if you do delete Windows.

There is no need to create backups of Windows drivers unless you plan on re-installing Windows, Ubuntu drivers are completely different and incompatible with Windows drivers.
