ubuntu can be booted without the hard disk?

i want to boot ubuntu from pendrive.But i want to boot it without the hard disk.

No problem. I had motherboard problems and ran from a usb 4G stick for a year without a disk.

The live CD notes cover how to do this with a USB key.

Note that if you wish to create a system that stores data between boots, then you will need to create a so-called "persistent" image. This is a little more tricky.
