Cannot install 11.04

Asked by John George

Have downloaded 11.04 and created ISO on DVD. Tried installing by booting from DVD, and tried installing 11.04 using wubi.exe under Windows7. Cannot get past the first screen which will not recognize password entered.

Also info on Ubuntu website that says that 10.10 can be upgraded to 11.04 can be done under Update Manager. This does not work.

Please help.

Thanks.

John

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you burn the DVD as slowly as possible?
Do you want to clean instal or would you rather upgrade?

Thanks for your email.  I would rather upgrade to 11.04 and overwrite 10.10 rather than have another Ubuntu system on my PC.  Your advice would be welcome.

I did not MD5 the ISO.  I wrote the DVD slowly and had no errors.

Thanks,

John

If you'd rather upgrade, then boot up your existing Ubuntu installation, run update-manager, and select 'upgrade'.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice. However, although I had 10.10 installed, the upgrade made me upgrade to a newer version of 10.10 first, and did not show 11.04 as being available. Then I had to upgrade to 11.04. This whole exercise took half a day, and would not work from the 11.04 that I had preciously downloaded and created on a DVD.

I willcertainly not do it this way again.

Thanks.
