Failure to load install screen Ubuntu 11.04 Boot CD

Asked by William Whitehead

When attempting to boot from a live CD with Ubuntu 11.04, I get the keyboard = man in circle screen for the duration of time that my computer is accessing the CD, then it goes blank. Any ideas what might be causing this and how to get around it?

I'm attempting to install on an old Compaq Presario 2100 notebook.

Thanks.

Cheers.

Try hitting a key the the man+keyboard shows, select a language, and see if you can proceed from there.

I hit a key, and nothing happens. It stays on the keyboard = man in circle screen.

Did you md5sum check the downloaded iso?
  See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Did you burn the cd as slowly as possible?
Did you select the media check before trying to install to check the cd
 http://zootlinux.blogspot.com/2010/05/check-disc-for-defects-in-ubuntu-1004.html
Did you ever do a "memory check" (another menu choice) on your PC.
Doing the above can save you a lot of time struggling with a bad install media.

Hi.

I have a Compaq Presario C500 with Windows XP running on Intel Celeron M.

Want to shift to Ubuntu.

I have downloaded the ISO file for 11.04 - stable version.

Tried installing it using USB - but the installation gets to nowhere after sometime and comes up with the error of invalid installation error.

Tried installing it using the CD also but the same error.

Have done the disk check - no errors. Have done the MD5 test also - no errors.

Am out of ideas. Please help.
