Install new hard disk

Asked by Iqbal

Hi,
I have to install new hard drive of 500 GB on laptop. I have to use dual boot with Vista and ubuntu.
How to make partitions and install both OS on HDD.
I read in fdisk man page that GParted should not be used for making first partition on the drive.

In this light, tell me the steps of intalling os.

Ok, after you install the hard drive in your computer put the Windows Vista disk and boot to install Windows. When you get to the “What Drive to install windows on” is where you want to load tools and make a second partition the size you want to put Ubuntu on and any other partitions you want, and go ahead and format all drives while you are there. Then go ahead and install Windows Vista on the C drive. Then you can boot Ubuntu from windows to install it on the drive you just made or you can boot from the DVD when you start your computer, ether way will work and whichever is easiest for you. I always make all my partitions this way when I first install the hard drive.
