removal of ubuntu

Asked by Pat Teeling

Our son installed ubuntu on our family computer, Windows XP platform, and we want to remove it. I have read the FAQ's, and for someone who is not computer savy, its seems to be almost impossible. Apparently, we have to use the "rescue disk" that came with our computer and then write in commands? Can you give us a step by step, in layman's talk, as to how we can get this programme off our computer?

This is the method of doing it:

https://bobmorris.wordpress.com/2008/02/09/how-to-uninstall-ubuntu-on-dual-boot-windows-xp-using-windows-only/

This assumes that you are currently able to boot both windows and Ubuntu. If you have overwritten windows with Ubuntu, this procedure will not work.

If you can press Ctrl+Alt+T, then cut and paste this command

sudo fdisk -l

then post the results back here, we can determine whether you still have a windows partition on your machine or not.
