live boot of 11.04 corrupts Windows 7

Asked by linuxonbute

Toshiba satellite L450-18D with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Inserted Live cd 11.04 ( 32 bit ) checked can connect to internet and browsed win7 on hard disk which had been auto mounted.
Shut down ( not restart ) - removed CD.
Started up and win7 complained that it could not start and repair program started, which did work by rolling back to a restore point .

Next time just booted live Cd and then shut it down.

Same problem on restarting. Window repair fixed the problem by rolling back to a restore point again

Tried a 64bit disc and this did not cause the problem.
My 32bit was a magazine cover disc which worked fine in itself
so I am now downloading another 32bit iso to see if it is some
obscure fault with the first disc.

The first 32 bit Cd it seems was faulty even though it ran seemingly without problems.

I downloaded and checked a new iso with md5sum. I then burned a Cd and again checked with md5sum.

Booted this and it caused no problems for Win 7.

I have since shrunk the Windows partition and installed the 32 bit ubuntu alongside it and all works well.
