can't boot 11.04 from disk in os x 10.6.7

Asked by Chris D

I have the .iso burned to a CD-R, and each time I reboot my macbook to try, not install ubuntu, I get to one of the following:
1. an error screen
2. a black screen with nothing
or
3. a purple screen w/ multiple options: try ubuntu, install, boot from first disk, and a couple of others I can't remember.

However, when I select try ubuntu, I get a black screen with a command line.

I would really like to try ubuntu, as I am planning on building a machine w/ os x and ubuntu, but have never used a linux os.

Thanks!

Chris

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you burn the CD as slowly as possible?
Did you test your RAM and the CD for defects when the CD starts to boot?
