Cannot install ubuntu 10.04 on Dell Studio 9100

Asked by JImm Burk

The installation appears to continue but the screens turn off and no other apparent actions will enable viewing. The installation may not be failing just no output to continue.

Hello

So if I understand well you can't a install Ubuntu on your pc.

You already have Ubuntu before or not?

And your screen when it becomes black you a message after, or not at all.
You are under any operating system currently. (prior to the installation).

Good message.

This is a clean install on a new 1TB disk. No operating system. The UBUNTU screen appears and the loading dots scroll across then the screens (both have 2) go black and the CD continues to load, or it appears to do so. Then nothing. No welcome sound, just darks screens.

I have reversed the screens, removed one to use only one, tried both on that configuration. The same result. The screen goes dark, actually into power-save because there is no signal.
It acts as though the installer does not recognize the display adapter. Is there a way to install in TEXT only mode?

I am a little confused in the last response. When I bring up the Ubuntu boot prompt are there some options that I can used to force the installer to use only text mode and not try to switch into the graphical interface, I have not been able to find such, but like the Debian offering there is a text mode install available. Just trying all the possible courses of action to get this distro up and running.

Hi Jimm,

It may be that you have a bum install cd. My suggestion would be to download the iso image from a mirror site, burn it to another dvd (or usb drive) and try the install again.

Thank you. I just had that thought and started the download from a different mirror.

Is there a way to install in TEXT only mode? http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/alternative-download . It's the Debian installer instead of Ubiquity, but same Ubuntu behind.

Can you help with this problem?
