Can't boot from USB on MacBook

Asked by Ian Dickinson

I followed the pertty standard instructions to make a usb drive I could install from found here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/How%20to%20install%20Ubuntu%20on%20MacBook%20using%20USB%20Stick

all of the files are on the usb fine, but when I restart my computer and hold down option, it unfortunately does not show up as a bootable device. Is this just something weird with OS X or the thumb drive? TBefore following the instructions the drive was formatted as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)

google "ubuntu check md5sum" to get the hash codes and match the code to the code that you have posted. if the codes don't match, it means you don't have a good download and you need to download again.

Can you help with this problem?
