cannot load ubuntu on a new pavilion g6 64 bit, just goes black

Asked by Michael John

Want to llearn ubuntu so bought a new hp pavilion g6 it has win 7 64 bit loaded, downloaded the softare and made the iso booted to that disk, it came up for a sec with a screen and two little icons at the bottom, then it stopped doing anything ends up with a black screen and nothing happens.

is there an issue with a new computer? hp specifically, I want to take the classes but cant if i dont have it loaded, also tried to do it from windows, it ends up as a choice in the startup but just stays blank.

any way around this ?

Make sure you downloaded the right version of Ubuntu for your computer, You should download the x64 version of Ubuntu 11.04. Also ensure you burned it to a CD properly and have your CD Drive set as the first boot option in the BIOS, refer to your computers manual for how to set boot order. Also you can try "burning" the ISO to a flash drive by using a flash drive and unetbootin.
Best of luck :-)

it was the 64 download, and i have no way to check if the disk was burned right, it was made by the program that opens when you download it, i did open when it was downloaded and it brought up a burn program, to make the boot disk. so you believe that its just the disk not a problem with the computer, i can solve that with buying a disk.
