Beginner's question

I have not been able to find an answer anywhere to one question I have--if I fully install Ubuntu, does Windows 7 disappear from my computer?

You can resize Win7 partitions within Win7 and make free space. You can then install Ubuntu to the free space and make a dual boot. You will need a blank CD or usb stick / SD card to put the ISO on using unetbootin to boot to in order to install Ubuntu from

I'd really like to get totally away from Microsoft, so that is why I was wondering if Windows 7 is deleted. I would be perfectly happy if it is.

You can tell the installer to destroy ALL the data on your drive and install Ubuntu as a the only OS. Make sure you have a backup of all the data you require before you start the installation
