when booting from USB ubuntu freezes

Asked by Rainer Reuss

Hi
I have followed the Instructions on the website to make a USB bootable copy of Ubuntu 11.04, following all the prompts and using the approriate software. I am trying to run this on a HP mini with Windows 7 starter preinstalled. I have no problem getting it to recognise and boot from the usb but after running soem code it get to a purple screen with Ubuntu written on it it freezes and nothing more happens. I have been able to get Ubuntu up once out of trying 5-6 times. As I am new to Ubuntu I want to run it of the USB to see if I like it, but I am very keen to install. Any idea what has gone wrong here?

Many thanks for your time

Rainer

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you test your RAM?

Thanks

When the boot splash shows, press ESC and watch the boot. What are the last few messages?

Hi actionparsnip

During one of the intermittent boots I decided to bite the bullet and just install Ubuntu (wih some help from a friend). Its now working fine (except for the wireless connection, but I will raise that as a separate issue). So ebven I am not sure what the problem really was, I guess the problem has resolved itself

Thanks again everyone
