new installation

Asked by Thomas J. Dunigan

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10 on my laptop from CD.

I can't get passed the "Who are you?" screen. After the files load, it says it's ready when I am but the FORWARD block does not highlight.

I've tried many different approaches to getting through this , but nothing seems to work. I've done a previous install from this CD and it worked. It worked on this same machine 2 days ago, but I have to reinstall to work around a network driver problem.

Any guidance????

Use all lowercase and only letters for all sections and it will be fine

Thank you, very much.

After the 6 or seventh attempt I did that, hoping to make things as simple as possible. I did get through the install BUT I did not do the upgrade to 11 or put in the updates (keeping it simple).

My e-mail does not work.

I am constantly required to put in my password for every administrative move.

Although I disabled the screen saver and created a powerplan to keep the screen from going black every 5 minutes, It still goes black and I have to input my password.

If I disconnect from the wireless network, I have to go back through the whole WEP thing to get it to reconnect.

If I upgrade to 11, the program ignores my modem intirely... and the troubleshooting guide just takes me back to original inquiry page without answering any "how to questions." I was told in a previous bug report, this has been fixed in the repository. Great! That doesn't get me any closer to getting done.

I presume you talk of LTS 10.4.2. About screen saver, could you provide a screen copy (or a picture of screen) and post it at imageshack.us . The system password should remain active many minutes since last entry. What is your e-mail reader ?
