why label is i386 when requires i686

Asked by Krishna E. Bera

The release iso for ubuntu 11.04 ends like "-i386.iso" however according to https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/installation-guide/i386/hardware-supported.html the system will not support anything less than a i686 processor with cmov instruction. Why not rename them so they end in "-i686.iso" to avoid misleading people with older computers?

You know Ubuntu will not run in a non i686 machine because I don't think those came with enough RAM. the only machines that are not i686 and could run Ubuntu are SoC used as thin clients in school or so. A Pentium classic with 128 MB RAM is very rare.
