desktop version of ubuntu 10.10 on a netbook

Asked by ryan bohac

i have installed the desktop version of ubuntu 10.10 on a netbook and long story short, i am running into a lot of un-intended consequences because of this. i am wondering is there a way to install the netbook version of ubuntu while using the desktop version. (note, i have errased the entire contents of the hard-drive when i installed ubuntu and when i tried to use a flash drive with the netbook version of ubuntu on it my netbook wont read that there is an OS on it)

there's no real difference between the desktop and netbook versions, except that the netbook version has more applications installed when you install it and a different graphical interface. i got tired of the interface after awhile and switched to the desktop interface.

what type of "consequences" are you facing?

marcus: i am unable to install any java script applications, cant connect to any wireless networks, when a window is put to close to the left side my screen fades to darkness.

So does that mean that the command for the netbook worked?

Try this:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook
sudo apt-get --purge remove ubuntu-desktop

If your system is a mess, best is to reinstall from Ubuntu USB key.
Check the ISO image you used to make USB key: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Check BIOS boot order.
What kind of netbook do you have ?
