Could you confirm it failed when you tried to boot from CD ?
You could check MD5 of ISO image: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM , but you were very unlucky if a corrupted CD failed so soon.

You should be able to proceed to MD5, disk bad or not.
On which operating system did you proceed ?

I have said ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop. Why is it so hard for me to get a straight answer from you? I want to know why I am able to ck the disks with the ubuntu 10.10 marketeer operating system. It has been days that I have been trying to get answers from you. So far what you have said does not work for me. Can you call me so I can get this figured out. I had to dismantle the computer that I had built because I had a bad motherboard. But now I want to make sure that the new ubuntu 10.10 desktop I downloaded from the ubuntu site will work. Because the disk I had bought has already failed to load all of the operating system on to the desktop. Can you please have someone call me please. My phone number is 763-439-6437

If you can't install Ubuntu 10.10 on your laptop, you can't use it to check MD5. So question is on which computer did you the test: Ubuntu, Mac or Windows ?

I already have ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop!!!!!! And that is the computer that I have tried to use to check the CD with. It is the same CD that I used to try and check with md5 and it tells me that I don't have permission to use md5. Now because I could not find out if that disk was any good I had downloaded and made new CDs Two with the ubuntu 10.10 laptop and then I used my wife's new computer running windows 7. I am unable to check any of the CDs that I made with the md5. It tells me that I don't have permission. So how do I get permission to check the CDs that I made from the downloads?

You have to check MD5 on ISO image and not CD. If you can't read ISO image, could you run command ls -l <name of file>.iso and post result.

Hello delance. I thank you for the help! I found out that the motherboard was bad, so I returned it. I am waiting for the new motherboard to show up. I did find out that all the ubuntu 10.10 copies I have are bad also. so I order a new CD from ubuntu. I also found out why I could not use the md5. I had a three viruses on my dell laptop. that is the computer that only had ubuntu 10.10 on it. I could not get it out using Clamav anti virus, so I reformatted my hard drive. on my dell and I sent back the motherboard. I am having a bad time with my computers. So thank you delance for triing to help me get them running. I will wait for the new CD and then I will try again to install the ubuntu on my computers.
