ubuntu is it really a virus?

running xp pro on p4 asrock mobo. any attempt to action making an image by any software causes complete hang up of the system requiring reset and makes the pc loose all trace of the memorex CD WRITER ANd the dvd drive. all the suggested software has failed to work for image creation on a cd ir recorder, nero, ms recorder,iso burner. is this ubuntu just an elaborate malware/virus hoax?

Something is wrong with your CD drive or driver, if XP is hanging. I have no idea why you are claiming anything is malware.

Try creating a bootable USB disk instead; this should be more reliable, and does not need your CD/DVD drive.

You should also perform an integrity check on the ISO data (MD5 checksum test), as outlined here

Its as much of a virus as windows is. Linux is simply FREE and obeys industry standards.

A bad image wouldn't do this; it is a hardware problem.

And the question is absurd and combative and makes you sound like a troll.

If there are bit errors in the data the the application will malfunction and cause an issue so a bad image can and will cause issues like this. The image SHOULD be checked anyway so that if any errors are encountered then it is definately NOT the installation data
