Unknown id for usb netbook download

Asked by Ed LeBlanc

I am trying to install the netbook version from my usb drive but get a (unknown id) prompt at the boot screen I have also put the version on cd but get the same prompt. I downloaded the os on my passport drive from a windows os laptop then transfered it to my Ubuntu desktop os netbook then used the startup disk creator to download it to the usb drive.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

10.10 seemed to have some new installation problems. In your BIOS, disable the floppy in the boot sequence if one is not present. Skip the initial graphics screen on the install media boot by typing F6 early to jump straight to the language selection screen. Hopefully, you can then perform the install.
Of course, you should always md5sum check the downloaded iso, burn the CD as slowly as possible, run the mediacheck on the CD, and check your ram sometimes. If all else fails, try the alternate install iso, it is text based and may avoid some graphics problems.

If you have a wrong UUID after installation, simply reinstall Grub2 from CD: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD

I printed out the MD5 instructions but I didn't understand it, I'll try the Grub2.
Thanks!
