Installing Ubuntu on Alienware laptop?

Asked by MetungKP

It looks like it does not install all the way. All I get is the Ubuntu Colored Screen and a gray bar on top. On the right side of the bar is Wi-Fi, Powre and volume. There is nothing else. Nothing happens when I place the cursor on top of any of the icons. The CD I had was for 64 BIT I used for my desktop 3 months ago. This laptop is also 64 BIT, so it should work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
KP

It looks like it does install correctly because I get the wireless availability display but I am unable to click on it. Nothing happens when I click it/

Could you boot on Ubuntu CD, and choose "Try" instead of "Install", and then System->Administration->System Test.

I meant the install menu does not pop up. Usually by hitting any keys the menu come up. I do get an error which pops up before the purple screen comes up but it disappears quickly so I cant read it.

When you see purple screen with dots, press <ESC> key and report last error messages.
Using CD or USB is quite the same. The USB key has a persistent area which lacks on CD. Don't be surprised, some messages talk of CD even when you use a USB key. I have difficulties to understand what happens. Could you report exactly what happen when you boot USB key and (if you reach this step) choose "Try" instead of "Install".

Can you help with this problem?
