64 Bit Compatible?

Asked by Edward Selesky

Asking if Ubuntu should load and work on my Alienware M17X. CPU is a Intel Quad Q720, 64 Bit. Also using Intel wireless card for connection. Would like to load as a Dual Boot system. Any reason why it should not work. First time considering using Ubuntu.

Instruction Set 64-bit

It's a 64bit CPU, You can run 32bit OS on it if you wish. You will need the PAE kernel to see all 4Gb RAM as 32Bit will only read 3.2Gb. Under the PAE kernel your maximum RAM assignment per process will also be 3.2Gb rather than the whole 4Gb

Alienware are known for proprietary hardware and they are noisy compared to most laptops in general but you should be ok.
